Is there a way to get a news box like this one: http://www.navyfield.cl/ or this one: http://www.nf-elite.com/ (the one that says announcements). Thanks!

first one's some javascript thing; probably not too hard to find a code that does that on the net somewhere if you look

second one's even easier though, it's just a marquee...
<marquee scrollamount="4" direction="up" loop="true">News here</marquee>
I don't know if marquees are even standard html anymore but it should work

I found out how to edit it, but theres a few things i dont like. I dont want them all showing up at once, i want one to go, hold for 5 seconds, then have the next one go. And, is there a way to change the box color. I looked into it, but i cant find anything else besides "success" and "error" And then finally, i want to add images into it, but i cant find out how. i tride [img] [/img] but it didnt wrk.

Different colored boxes are something you'd have to make yourself either by editing the css and basing it off of the success and error classes or just using style tags. I believe someone posted a code for a blue box when someone else asked for a similar thing a while back in the shoutbox, but since it was in the shoutbox i can't exactly get it for you...

as far as getting the code to do what you want- I don't know how to do that. I can help you with simple things or getting things to work with JaxBoards but as far as custom widget things go, that's not really something I can help with... it's just general javascript stuff and not really related to jaxboards, though maybe Sean can help if he gets the chance- don't count on it though

Darkfrost, hold on for a day or two. The calendar widget will use some javascript that does something very similar to what you want, and it can be repurposed for your news box.

I've just about finished the calendar events, but I'm having trouble right now getting it to compensate for timezones. As soon as that's done, I'll be able to upload everything I've done with it, and I'll help you get your news widget set up.

Seriously. That's the only thing holding me back right now. It's a brain stumper since I don't currently have a board setting for timezone, as all board times are relative.

well how does it know today @ 1:39am for me and say today @ 5:39am for someone else; what's it relative to- i know timezone on the computer but what is that measured against

The way times are done right now is dates are first converted to GMT + 0 on the server, and are converted to GMT + N for the users, N being whatever their offset is. This is fine for static dates, because it they can be converted client side. Calendar events will require the conversion to be done relative to whatever timezone the event creator is in, instead of the server's timezone. It's throwing me off. I have a solution I'm going to try tonight.
